somehow managed to get in the money last night in a tournament. Handicapped 8 ball that I play as a 4. Most people are a 4 in it, though there are a handful of 2's and 3's and only 2 five or betters.

I play a 2 to start with, beat them 4-0, think they made 3 balls whole set. Then I play a 4 and get beat hill-hill. Off to the losers. Manage to get through the bracket, last two sets against the two best players both hill-hill. The guy that put me in the losers won the winners and we split the t money and calcutta money. Got home about 4 am.

Now the bitch is...Why the hell are handicapped tournaments popular. When I started playing there was no such thing, and I really don't like them. There is a open 9ball on friday that is much more fun to play in. One of the other halls is running a handicapped 9ball on saturday every week. My personal belief is the APA has ruined smaller town tournaments. Everyone wants a "fair" chance. Fuck being fair and practice more if you have no chance. I don't practice, so I don't expect to get into the money very often in a 30 player field in a open tournament.

About a month ago people were bitching about the A+ players playing in the 9ball tournament, the A+'s offered to go a extra game, and that wasn't good enough for the bitching folks. So they just played it even as planned instead. I thought it was funny.

The average banger thinks it gives them an edge to come in the money. HC'd tourneys end up having baggers when it comes down to it.

don't want to get used to it *lol*. Last week a woman was playing that is like a 4 or 5 in her league. So they made her a three, based on what she told the TD. Then she bitched she wasn't a 2 in the tournament after play started. Had a 2 that was better than every three in the tournament last week. Seems like the 4's and 5's in our tournament don't complain, just the 2's and 3's.

I won't play apa leagues, though I did play a bca one last year. To me its 8 ball, make it a race to three and everyone has a chance. Handicap them by making them short races is good with me, especially in 9ball. You can suck and still be a A+ player 3 games.

Handicapped barbox 8-ball sucks.
WTF? How much advantage does one have over a banger on a barbox 8-ball?

Very very little unless its ranked very well. In this T, the 2's and 3's aren't normally going to get out if they get ball in hand early in the rack for example. Most of the 4's if they get ball in hand from any point are going to get out or play a good safe. Most 4's will break and run a rack in a set.

Handicapped anything sucks imho.

It draws more players. Most low end players would not even try if they knew the competition was tuff.
I've not played in a weekend tournament in years. Just don't get the free time. But I would still pref a handicap.
We got a 7 here that I can't play heads up. He has won APA National singles a few times now (think 3 times).

And go job cashing.

Its the tournament ranking, not a apa ranking. A 4 in this tournament would be a 6 or 7 in apa. Basically it goes d=2, c=3,c+/ b=4, a=5, a+=6

Like handicaps race to 3, otherwise you go to whatever your ranking is.

Hey, I like that variation of a ranked tourney. I might suggest that to a place where I regularly play.

Just to show that all APA leagues are not equal...I'm (was) a SL4 and I can run a 9 ball rack on 7 ft tables; no problem. I do occasionally run a rack of 8 ball. We have a SL9 in 9 ball who won a tourney lately and never lost a game; broke and ran 30+ games in the tourney.
.
.

J...equality just ain't very equal !

Ok, I get it. Yes I expect a 6 or 7 to get out with ball in hand. Or at least play for a saftey to get the win next shot.
