This is a fairly early cue from Joel Hercek, completed in 1998 for a customer in Tennessee. It was listed on eBay in 2006 by Deno Andrews and he and I talked on the phone several times during the auction. I also talked to Joel, who knew the cue and Deno, and I pulled the trigger on it.

Since this was almost twice as much as I had paid for any previous cue, I was a little apprehensive buying a cue "over the internet". As Johnny Miller would say, my "butt was puckered up". But, everything went off without a hitch.

You hear about closet queens. Well this one was anything but that. It had been played A LOT. The wrap was nasty. The shafts looked like they had been dipped in that blue Tidy Bowl stuff. And the finish was wearing. Don't get me wrong, the cue had not be abused; just very well used; which is always nice to see.

After a visit to the Hercek shop for a refinish/rewrap and shaft clean up, the cue was like new. Joel even snapped a picture for me while the wrap was off so you can see his full-splice construction. He noted that the cue was numbered under the wrap, which was something he did early on but later discontinued.

vinniebabarooch (on AZ) now has the cue in his extensive Hercek collection after I traded it to him for another Hercek that I still have.

Scott
