~+~ CUE IS SOLD ~+~January 2011

These bridged veneers got me, "Paul Fanelli"

First of all I have to say sorry. Why ? Because I collected cues for over a decade and never really heard about Fanelli cues.
Maybe I switched the sites in my BlueBook too fast, or maybe I had something like a "Tunnel Vision" for a long time.
But now I know - I missed out on something great.

For app. ten years I never owned a cue with butterflies - don´t ask me why, I don´t know it.
Uuups, of course I owned a snooker cue, and that one certainly has some in it.
But when I think about all the pool cues I owned and own now, that really was my first "butterfly cue",
but "they" where not even the reason why I wanted to get this nice piece of wood.

I had the chance to get Andy Gilberts Anniversary Set, and the purpleheart Andy used there is awesome.
And when I saw this cue, the purpleheart and these marvelous inlays at the end of the butt named "Celtic Band",
yeap, I decided that this one will be my first "butterfly cue".
As I heard from the last owner, and as it is written in the letter which comes with the cue,
there are many awesome and typical features from Paul in it - a perfect fit for the "Typical Collection".

Three of Pauls trademarks, THE CELTIC BAND, THE OVERLAPPING BUTTERFLIES and the SUPERLONG POINTS are there.
Of course awesome, but none of these, were THE REASON to pick it up for me, but these BOXED VENEERS ,
which fit so perfectly to the overlapping butterflies and the points immediately catched my attention.

I hope you also will like these nice features in that cue, and maybe some of you don´t know Paul that good.
Now for sure you will know him

Erich

You have some real beauties in your collection but this one is by far my favorite. I could sit here all day in sing the praises of Paul. Maybe I'm biased because I've owned a few. Maybe its because I've been in his shop before and talked with him a bit.

I think the real reason is that Paul is one of the rare few who can make a cue so elaborate and so complex and so creative without using a single inlay! Just woods and splicing techniques! He's one of the best (if not THE best) in the butterfly game! And while many know him for that, a lot of people often overlook that his pointwork and veneer work is absolutely stellar!!! Paul is a great guy who just keeps pushing the envelope and coming up with brilliant stuff! Whether its overlapping butterflies, full splice cues that show the seamless transition frombutterfly into point, or his newest 'spiked butterflies', heamazes me almost every time.

And with this classic combo of purpleheart and ebony, yo ujust can't go wrong! AWESOME!

@ scott and brian,
thanks again for your nice words and you are completely right.
To do an eleborate cue like this, which really pops out, and all that without the use of inlays - thats awesome.
His splice technices and the other stuff he does is fantastic and I am happy to own one of his masterpieces.
Erich

Thanks for your kind words again, Rich
And the butterflys look even more spectacular ("supergeil") in reality - I mean compared to my pics.
