I happened to catch the World Dart Championship on ESPN this weekend. The number of people in attendance watching, chanting and most importantly drinking was HUGE. I mean really HUGE!!

Any pool tournaments pay this much?

The 2014 World Championship features a prize fund of at least £1,050,000. The winner's prize money has been increased from £200,000 to £250,000.

The prize money is allocated as follows:

Position (num. of players)

Prize money

Winner (1) £250,000
Runner-up (1) £100,000
Semi-finalist (2) £50,000
Quarter-finalist (4) £25,000
Third round losers (8) £15,000
Second round losers (16) £10,000
First round losers (32) £6,000
Preliminary round losers (8) £3,500

Nine-dart finish (2) £30,000
(£15,000 each)

Here's the current conversion of 1.00 Euro to US Dollars: About $312,000 for 1st along with payouts to EVERYONE else.

Pool continues to suck hind tit to almost every other sport

1 Euro is = to almost $1.25 in US

I watched some of that a while back and was amazed. Not only at how many people were there but how fast the games were. I have never seen darts at that level before.
