I know...wasn't being serious.

I'll get this back on track Wed. I think instead of naming them by weeks I'll do segments instead. That way if I have another screwed up week it won't throw us off.

I was visiting Jerry Franklin at his shop in the late 80's (we were going to go skiing on Lake Mead that day) and saw him making points exactly the way Murray has detailed here. I was kind of surprised at the wastefulness of throwing away a full 50% of the exotic wood center point, so I told him how I'd been doing it - which was to bond my veneers to ALL FOUR SIDES of the center block, and then bandsaw the blocks on a compound diagonal to create two points from every veneered block.

Jerry literally had a forehead-slapping moment of clarity, but I don't know if he ever actually changed to doing it that way.

It requires building a special sliding jig for your bandsaw that allows you to slice the point layup on an unusual angle, but with four blocks you get two four-point cues worth of point sets. Since I nearly always choose my center blocks out of highly figured (and therefore rare) wood, I got a more efficient yield and essentially double my point output - for very little additional effort.

Not if you're paying attention.

Label each point block for sequence (and which end is which) and use the same relative halves in one cue. You get two sets of points. If you haven't been drinking and don't mix them up (and if you keep them in sequence) you get two cues that each have book matched points.

Easy peasy.
